The GMK NucBox K8 is a high-performance mini PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 88845HS processor with two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports and a 40 Gbps USB4 port. When Ian Morrison reviewed the little computer earlier this year, he found that it offered strong performance and a functional design.
Now GMK is preparing to launch a new GMK NucBox K8 Plus model that keeps all of those feature, but adds a few more. Instead of a single USB4 port it now has two. And there's an OCuLink port with support for data transfer speeds up to 64 Gbps, allowing for higher-speed connection to external graphics docks.
GMK hasn't officially launched the NucBox K8 Plus model yet, so there's no word on exactly when it will be available for purchase. But the company has posted a teaser on Chinese social media that provides a few more details.
The upcoming computer has two SODIMM slots with support for up to a total of 96GB of DDR5-5600 memory, two M.2 2280 connectors for PCIe 4.0 NVMe storage, and n addition to the new ports, the updated system has a "new VC heat spread and new heat dissipation design" that GMK says will allow the system to run cooler and quieter.
Like the original NucBox K8, the new Plus model has three performance modes: Quiet, Balanced, and Performance, allowing you to choose the power/performance profile that's best for your needs. While the first two are the same on both computers (with the power limits set to 35 watts for Wuiet and 54 for Balanced), the NucBox K8 Plus has a power limit of 70 watts in Performance mode, compared with 64 watts for the standard K8 mini PC.
The new model is also a little larger, at 132 x 125 x 58mm (5.2″ x 4.9″ x 2.3″), compared with 123 x 112 x 43mm (4.8″ x 4.4″ x 1.7″) for the original.
