The Milk-V DuoModule 01 is a tiny computer-on-a-module that features integrated eMMC storage, support for WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4, and a Sophgo SG2000 processor featuring a single ARM Cortex-A53 CPU core and two XuanTie C906 RISC-V cores, as well as a microcontroller and neural processing unit.

But the module itself isn't much use unless it's connected to a board that provides power, ports, and other functionality. That's where the Milk-V DuoModule 01 Evaluation Board comes in. Available now for $42, the board is a fully functional single-board PC with the DuoModule 01 at its heart.

The SG2000 chip itself features 512MB of DDR3 memory, WiFi and Bluetooth, 1 GHz and 700 MHz RISC-V cores, and a 1 GHz ARM Cortex-A53 processor core as well as an 8-bit 8051 6KB microcontroller and an NPU with up to 0.5 TOPS of AI performance.

Note that you can't use the RISC-V and ARM cores at the same time: the chip allows you to select one set of CPU cores to use at a time before you start up the computer.

The Evaluation Board measures 100 x 75mm (3.94″ x 2.95″) and comes with an 8GB eMMC module and features a set of ports and connectors that includes:

  • 1 x USB Type-C for power and data
  • 4 x USB 2.0 Type-A
  • 2 x 10/100 Ethernet
  • 1 x 3.5mm audio
  • 1 x microSD card reader
  • 2 x MIPI-CSI 2-lane camera connectors
  • 1 x MIPI-DSI 4-lane display connector
  • 19 pin GPIO header
  • According to Milk-V, the board supports camera sensors up to 5MP at 30 frames per second and works with operating systems including Buildroot and RTOS.

In case the name didn't make it clear, the Evaluation Board is primarily targeted at developers and other customers looking to test the DuoModule 01 rather than the general public, so don't expect Raspberry Pi-like support for this platform. But it's always interesting to see another entry in the RISC-V single-board computer space… especially one that can also be used as an ARM-based board.
