While some mini PC makers are starting to introduce compact computers featuring the latest Intel Lunar Lake or AMD Strix Point processors, MSI is taking a slow and steady approach by launching several new models powered by Intel Raptor Lake processors… which are two generations behind the chip maker's latest architecture.

Earlier this year MSI introduced the MSI Cubi NUC 1M with support for up to an Intel Core 7 Processor 150U chip. And now the company has unveiled a new Cubi NUC 13MQ with up to a Core i7-1365U vPro chip.

The new models are functionally pretty similar to the ones that came out earlier this year. Both are 136 x 133 x 50mm (5.3′ x 5.2″ x 2″) computers with dual Thunderbolt 4 ports, two 2.5 GbE Ethernet ports, two HDMI ports. Both have Intel AX211 wireless cards with support for WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. And both have two SODIMM slots for up to a total of 64GB of DDR5-5200 memory.

For storage, the little computers feature M.2 2280 and M.2 2242 slots for PCIe SSDs and a 2.5 inch drive for an optional SATA hard drive or SSD.

Both the Intel's Core Mobile Series 1 chips used in the MSI Cubi NUC 1M and the 13th-gen Intel Core chips used for the Cubi NUC 13MQ are based on the same Intel Raptor Lake architecture. The difference is that the Core Mobile Series 1 processors are a little newer and support higher CPU frequencies, but the older 13th-gen chips support Intel vPro technology, which could make them a better fit for businesses looking to leverage Intel's hardware-based security features.
