LTPO+ is said to enhance the advantages of LTPO, but it might not be feasible for customers to upgrade to the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max.

A key difference between regular iPhone models and the ‘Pro’ versions was the introduction of LTPS and LTPO technology by Apple annually. With more expensive handsets, this technology offered better power efficiency, color reproduction, and support for ProMotion, which enabled that buttery-smooth 120Hz refresh rate.

However, this differentiator will be absent next year as all iPhone 17 models are expected to feature LTPO OLED panels. Nevertheless, a rumor suggests that Apple might introduce a new display technology called ‘LTPO+’ in the following year. This potential addition could provide another reason for customers to opt for the iPhone 18 Pro or iPhone 18 Pro Max.

The rumor was shared by Jukanlosreve, who cited Omdia, an independent analyst and consultancy firm, as the source of the prediction. While the specific details were not mentioned in the recent post on X, the tipster stated that LTPO+ is still in the development phase. However, once it enters production, it is expected to offer enhanced features compared to standard LTPO, including improved efficiency.

Given that Samsung and LG are Apple’s current iPhone display suppliers who have annually provided LTPO panels, it is likely that these two Korean manufacturers will be responsible for introducing LTPO+ to the market. It’s worth noting that Samsung initially hesitated to mass-produce the tandem OLED found in Apple’s M4 iPad Pro models due to profitability concerns and only agreed to do so after receiving a substantial order.

While the manufacturing giant later agreed, this setback caused a launch delay, which could be the case with LTPO+ if Apple fails to convince Samsung and LG to invest in R&D and establish separate production lines for these newer OLED displays, which will cost billions. Assuming any obstacle arises between the launch timeline, it’s possible that the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will be stuck with the regular LTPO technology. Regardless, we advise caution and treat this rumor with skepticism until we have more concrete information.
