Google has recently announced its intention to implement two significant Android updates in 2025, aimed at better aligning its major operating system updates with the release schedules preferred by smartphone manufacturers. The first update will introduce substantial changes in functionality alongside new developer APIs, while the second will be more focused on the latter.

The company has initiated this process by releasing the first developer preview of Android 16.

Tech bloggers from platforms such as 9to5Google and Android Authority have begun to explore Android 16 DP1 in search of additional user-facing changes that users are likely to notice while utilizing a device running Android 16. It is important to note that adjustments may occur before the stable release anticipated in the first half of 2025. However, there are certain features that seem to be integrated into Android 16 at this stage:

One notable addition is native support for Bluetooth Audio Sharing, enabling wireless audio transmission to multiple devices simultaneously through Bluetooth LE Audio broadcasting, also referred to as Auracast. This feature allows multiple individuals to wear earbuds and enjoy the same song, podcast, or audiobook, with the option to password-protect streams.

Another new feature, Notification Cooldown, enhances user experience by reducing volume and minimizing alerts for up to two minutes during periods of frequent notifications.

Additionally, rather than the previous “Extra dim” setting, Google's display settings and Quick Settings tile now include an option for "Even dimmer." 

Some readers have suggested that the company should consider pausing updates for a year or two to allow app developers and device manufacturers to catch up, questioning the need for continuous changes that might invalidate their efforts. 

In response to such commentary, some users maintain that Android peaked at version 4 in terms of functionality.
