Here’s a recap of the key changes rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro models so far:

Frame & Materials

The iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to have an aluminum frame, a departure from the titanium frame used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro, and the stainless steel frame used in the iPhone X through iPhone 14 Pro. The back of the devices will reportedly feature a new “part-aluminum, part-glass” design. The new glass section or part of the back of the all new iPhone 17 series is meant to allow for the devices to be used by way of wireless charging and for MagSafe compatibility.

Camera Bump

The devices are anticipated to have a “larger rectangular camera bump” made of aluminum. This will be a drastic design change. Apple has parked their current iPhone 16 models on the same design roughly for 6 long years. With slumping sales for this generation, Apple is looking to change things up in the looks department. Wheather you like the look or not, it should generate tons of buzz and older iPhone users will feel enticed to upgrade to the new look, not wanting to be left behind in this vanity world we live in.

Bionic A19 Pro CPU

The iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to power up with Apple’s next-generation A19 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC’s newer third-generation 3nm process. As usual, we can expect modest performance gains and power efficiency improvements compared to the current iPhones. Not sure what in House chip Apple is going to use to power the base models yet. Whatever they choose will still be plenty powerful, just not on the Pro level of power.

Apple-Designed Wi-Fi 7 Chip

At least one iPhone 17 model is rumored to incorporate a Wi-Fi 7 chip designed by Apple, rather than Broadcom. Probably the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. We all know Apple likes to slap older specs in the base models while the Pro Models get the good stuff. Eventually all iPhone models will have Wi-Fi 7 Chips and connectivity, more than likely with the iPhone 18 series.

Front Camera Upgrade

All four iPhone 17 models are said to feature an upgraded 24-megapixel front-facing camera, replacing the 12-megapixel camera in the iPhone 16 models. This upgrade is or should be a big improvement, allowing for more light to enter the sensor. In turn generating better photos and videos.

Rear Telephoto Camera Upgrade

An upgraded 48-megapixel Telephoto camera is rumored for the iPhone 17 Pro models, replacing the 12-megapixel camera in the iPhone 16 Pro models.Once again, the newer gen sensors allow for more light to enter, especially in low light situations. Improving still photo and video quality.

RAM Increase

Initially, an increased 12GB of RAM was rumored exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but later, it was also extended to the iPhone 17 Pro. This upgrade should enhance the performance of Apple Intelligence and multitasking. All four iPhone 16 models have 8GB of RAM and the iPhone 17 Pro & 17 Pro Max are expected to come equipped with 12GB RAM. The base iPhone 17 and all new Apple iPhone 17 Air will launch with 8GB RAM.

Dynamic Island Change

A change rumored exclusively for the iPhone 17 Pro Max is a “much narrowed Dynamic Island,” resulting from Apple adopting a “metalens” for the Face ID system. The Dynamic Island is rumored to become smaller and smaller each year with every new generation. By the time the Apple iPhone 18 or 19 is launched the Dynamic Island will be non-existent, vacating the in display front selfie camera and going under the display. The under the display front selfie sensor is currently in Apple's iPhone roadmap and as of now still a go, internally at Apple.
